Payton Watt

Co-Founder, Chief Operating Officer, Director of Social Advocacy

Payton is a first year Master’s student at the University of Michigan School of Public Health studying Epidemiology and Health Management and Policy. Utilizing her background in data, public policy, and social work, she aims to become a leader in health administration. She hopes to not only create a more efficient healthcare system, but also increase healthcare access and educate on the unique health challenges that vulnerable populations face.

Nolan Smith

President 

Hometown: Portage, Michigan

Nolan is a senior at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, where he is working towards a Major in Business Administration. Nolan has a focus in accounting, as he plans to eventually pursue a CPA and a career in audit and assurance.

Emma Weston

Vice President of Internal Affairs

Hometown: Portage, Michigan

Emma is a senior at the University of Michigan studying cellular and molecular biology. She is a research assistant in the Childhood Disparities Research Laboratory, where she studies social determinants of health disparities in school aged children. With a passion for understanding and diminishing health disparities, Emma hopes to become an emergency medicine physician to have a direct, visible impact.

Lindsay Calka

Vice President of External Affairs

Hometown: Tampa, Florida

Lindsay is a junior in the college of Literature, Sciences, and the Arts studying Social Theory and Practice with focuses in urban poverty and feminist theory. She is also pursing a minor in Art and Design. Outside of MIM, Lindsay is a Campus Day tour guide, runs club cross country, and is the Director of Design for What the F Layout Magazine. Lindsay is passionate about community organizing, especially when through the arts.

Sloane Lynch

Director of Finance  

Hometown: Monroe, Michigan

Sloane is a senior at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, studying Public Health Sciences. She is interested in identifying and understanding the unique barriers different individuals face to accessing health care and health education. Sloane hopes to use her understanding of social determinants of health to address inequities relating to maternal and fetal health as an obstetrician-gynecologist.

Charlotte Yang

Director of Communications 

Hometown: Guangzhou, China 

Charlotte is a senior at the University of Michigan College of LSA pursuing a bachelor of science in Neuroscience with a minor in American Culture. After her undergraduate studies, she aspires to attend medical school to become a physician and serve patients of all backgrounds, especially those who are socioeconomically disadvantaged and medically underserved.

Nina Serr

Director of Community and Campus Engagement

Hometown: Ann Arbor, Michigan

Nina is a senior at the University of Michigan majoring in Biology, Health & Society and minoring in business or entrepreneurship with a focus in sales and an interest in nutritional sciences. Nina is interested in how technological innovation can improve population health, especially when related to aiding underprivileged communities. She hopes to work with health centered businesses in the future, or start one of her own. 


Annika Dhawan

Co-Director of Outreach and Development 

Hometown: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Annika is a junior at the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, where she is pursuing an International Studies degree with focus on Global Health and Environment. Annika is passionate about service and development of communities both locally and abroad, and hopes to become a physician or work in the public health sector to specifically aid underserved areas and address issues relating to women’s health.

Marissa Ernst

Co-Director of Outreach and Development

Hometown: Canton, Michigan

Marissa is a Junior at the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts where she is studying economics with an intention to minor in business. She joined MIM her freshman year and has grown more involved with the organization ever since. Some of her favorite experiences were volunteering at Mercy House and Tent City.

Jakin Zhang

Co-Director of Outreach and Development

Hometown: Cleveland, Ohio

Jakin is a Sophomore at The University of Michigan, planning to pursue an Organizational Studies Major with a focus on social and economic policy. Jakin is passionate about a number of race, gender and identity, and socioeconomic inequality issues and is also interested in nonprofit service. As a critical thinker and creative problem-solver, she seeks to find improvements for a better and more just society.

Alan Chu

Advisor of Outreach and Development

Hometown: Taipei, Taiwan

Alan is a senior at the University of Michigan studying Computer Science. He joined MIM as a freshman and got more involved after forming a close bond with other students in the organization. His best experience in MIM was spending a full day with a senior who was experiencing homelessness. He had the chance to form a personal relationship with the senior and to understand the various struggles that individuals experiencing homelessness face. 


Lindsey Smith

Co-Director of Operations

Hometown: Grand Rapids, Michigan

Lindsey is a junior in the University of Michigan’s College of Engineering pursuing a degree in Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Climate and Space Sciences and Engineering. Outside of Michigan Movement, she is applying to join the Michigan eXploration Lab in which she hopes to participate in CubeSat design and production. Lindsey joined MIM with the aspiration of having a positive impact on the community in a way other than engineering.

Anna DeRoque

Co-Director of Operations

Hometown: San Francisco, CA

Anna is a junior at the University of Michigan studying Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Spanish. She is very passionate about service and is excited to work with the local community this upcoming year. She hopes to one day pursue a career in environmental justice, research, or conservation in the US and abroad.

Nathanial Nass

Director of Advertisement  

Hometown: Grand Haven, Michigan

Nathanial is a junior at the University of Michigan College of LSA, where he is pursuing a degree in Political Science. He intends to further his education by attending law school after finishing his undergraduate studies. He is interested in the criminal justice system and potential ways of reforming it. He is also passionate about videography, using this skill to help bring awareness to the economic hardships faced by many in Ann Arbor and the surrounding area.

Kateryna Karpoff

Director of Marketing

Hometown: Fair Lawn, New Jersey

Kateryna is a junior studying Biomolecular Science with a minor in Writing. She hopes to become a physician and work with diverse and medically underserved communities, implementing her writing and communication skills to strengthen the transparency of her practice. She is interested in the intersection of nutrition and public health, currently working as a research assistant in the Translational Tissue Modeling Laboratory of Michigan Medicine’s Gastroenterology Department.
